RPG Stuff

For about 8 years now I have been a DnD guy.  I breathe skill points and bleed liquefied D20's.  There has not been a class I have at least attempted.  I may not always stick to exact rules but I have never really considered anything other than the Player's Handbook as the definitive authority on tabletop RPGs.

I once tried palladium but didn't take a liking to it.  That perhaps marred my views on anything beyond what Wizards publishes.  Granted it very well might have been the GM that spoiled the experience, but the game didn't speak to me beyond that hosts blunderings.

I am a loyal reader of several webcomics, one of which being Something Positive.  They have touted the joys of GURPs for years but I never gave it any real consideration.  Perhaps it was desire to not have to learn a whole new system, or the idea that I might have to fall in with an elitist group of gamers to play this system.

This last week, after again thinking about how much I enjoy Munchkin it suddenly dawned on me that GURPs is also made by Steve Jackson.   I was now inspired to do some research into this long ignored sect of RPG devotion.  So I located a copy of the Light Handbook and started reading.

I have not yet played an actual game but what I am reading seems a lot more open and customizable than what D20 has to offer.  I also like the system for rolling; it fits more within the idea of trained skills and less chance of unfitting results.

I am reserving true judgment till after I actually play, now to find a GM.  And if I can't, become a GM.
